General Responsibilities:
The Grants Manager serves as the primary point person for the post-award management of at least one large-scale government grant. Working together with the Director of Policy and Partnerships and Director of Finance, s/he proactively leads management of the grant and ensures overall strategic focus, management effectiveness, financial probity, and compliance to all grant-funded program activities. S/he will report to the Director of Policy and Partnerships.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Sierra Leone and Boston staff in finance, procurement, monitoring and evaluation, and program management to ensure full procedural compliance with grant agreement.
  • Help set relevant systems for grants management and provide technical assistance as needed.
  • Work with the Director of Policy and Partnerships in Sierra Leone and the Director of Compliance and Grant Management in Boston to serve as a resource on grant compliance and interpretation of all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures. Interpret applicable regulations and translate into operational policies as needed.
  • Work with PIH’s Boston development team to develop and carry out robust stewardship and communication plans for the funder.
  • Proactively identify potential challenges and initiate or recommend corrective action.
  • Work with the Director of Policy and Partnerships to ensure accurate, timely, efficient, and transparent processes for the entire grant life cycle.
  • Ensure accurate and timely record keeping that is aligned with donor preferences, expectations, and requirements.
  • Oversee the financial/administrative aspects of the project including monitoring the budget.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred, in public health, development studies, social/medical sciences, or management.
  • A minimum of five years relevant work experience, with at least 3 years of experience in grants management or administration. Some international field experience is strongly desired.
  • Core competence in international development, including project management and public health.
  • Strong familiarity with public sector funding agency compliance and grant requirements.
  • Excellent facilitation, oral and interpersonal communication, and presentation skills including excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent planning and prioritization skills as well as creative problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong project management and time management skills; highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with humility and sense of humor.
  • Commitment to health and social justice.
  • Ability to live in Sierra Leone full-time required.
